Munster is located in the region known as Munsterland in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. It has a population of about 275,000 residents. The city is divided into six districts: Mitte (middle), Ost (east), West (west), Nord (north), Süd-Ost (southeast) and Hiltrup. All of the hotels Munster has make the perfect base from which to explore this fascinating and historic German town.

Munster is widely known as the bicycle capital of Germany. For every resident in town, there are two bicycles. The city contains special bike lanes and paths as well as traffic signals. Bicycle rentals are available, naturally, for the visitor who does not bring their own.

Prinzipalmarkt is the main center of Munster's shopping and dining district. Referred to as "the parlor" by locals, this area is also home to some of the city's popular festivals and celebrations.

One of the region's most significant attractions is the 100 Castles Route. The 100 Castles Route winds through the German countryside, past 100 of Munsterland's castles. The course is about 600 miles in total and is divided up into four smaller courses. These are the North Course, the South Course, the East Course and the West Course. The tour is meant for cyclists and the roads are a mixture of flat and hilly (depending on which course is taken) and the courses are all very clearly marked.

The grandest of the Munsterland castles is Castle Nordkirchen, also known as the "Versailles of Westphalia". Guided tours of the castle are available on Sundays, from October through April between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. From May through September, guided tours are available on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gardens are open year round for self-guided tours.
